Youth Employment:
The County Breakout Group is currently tackling the issue of Youth Employment. Cumberland County’s youth have an employment rate of 39.6%, compared to the state average at 26.3%.
Gun Safety and Violence Awareness:
The County Breakout Group is also continuing its work on the Gun Safety and Violence Awareness campaign. The Group is working on collaborating with state representatives to declare June as Gun Safety and Violence Awareness Month statewide. In addition, Members are looking to expand the sites at which the Gun Safety Education is administered, and designing supplemental activities in order to further engage students.
CCPYDC is also engaging in several gun safety & violence awareness activities throughout the month of June. English flyer & Spanish available.
- CCPYDC hosted a county-wide Coffee With A Cop event on June 3rd, 2017. For more information please see our flyers: English & Spanish.
- CCPYDC partnered with the Live Healthy Corner Store Initiative, the Vineland Board of Health, and the YMCA to help bring Gun Safety Information to each of our three municipalities: Vineland, Millville, and Bridgeton. Spanish flyers also available: Vineland, Millville, and Bridgeton. Local Police Chaplains are on site at each of these 3 events to answer other community policing questions.
- Gun Safety Kits have been donated by the local police departments and been distributed to those in need of them at all of the above events.
- CCPYDC has hosted a Stand-up for Gun Safety Art contest for grades 4 – 8 in Cumberland County. This initiative will culminate in a celebration at the Cumberland County Library on June 21st from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
